ONE BRAIN., ONE LIFE … ONE CHANCE! LOOK AFTER IT !!
It’s not so much a question of “if you can afford to” but “if you can afford not to?” We all have choices, what is best for you though?

PLEASE NOTE: We work with various schools and we were very much involved in the 'Safety Week' at another local school along side all the emergency services however that particular school policy doesn't allow us to show any photos we might have and it is OUR POLICY to only publish photos that we have express permission from parents/legal guardians to use or from media articles involving ourselves, again that we have permission to use which are always copy written to the professional photographer who took them in the first instance.  We will never use names and/or locations either, again to protect the children that we work with so if you know we've been to your school but the photos are missing, please don't be offended, it's either school policy or a parental decision designed to protect you.

ALF Memorial Ride Sunday 4th February 2007

Sunday 4th February turned out to be beautiful and lots of children who have been trained by Wendy came for the ride out which was such good news, my family drove down from 'oop north' and my sister flew over from Ireland as well so we had another great ride with pasties waiting for us the other end, on the quayside in Padstow ... this is one of the young lads who'd won the ALF award and one of the very first graduates of Bikeability Level 2 in Cornwall ... and one of the youngest bless him ... the ITV West Country Cameras were there too as we left, hopefully going out tonight at 6.30pm

These are some of us cycling the trail, chilling out on the quay the other end with pasties and a drink or coming back again ... Cathie got a puncture so had to borrow another bike to get back and a special thanks to Padstow Bike Hire who helped my niece when her chain kept coming off and her brakes needed some adjusting too - cheers me dear!

This is especially worthy of a mention - Danni raised over £100 having her hair done like this and if you look carefully, the initials 'A.L.F' are visible., thanks Danni!

Once everyone was refreshed then we headed back again ... even the little ones!

Once everyone had had a bite to eat, off we went back again and thank you everyone, hopefully see you next year on Sunday 3rd Feb 2008?
Back in Wadebridge again - these are two more of Wendy's students who either have or currently is doing their Level 1 Bikeability going on to do their Level 2 after half term.  Level 3 is more for Y6 before they go up but Level 2 they'll use now and do!

And finally back to St. Columb ... well, it is Sunday after all and I reckon we've all earned it LOL ;-)

Here are few photos from one of the school presentations that we did recently when we also launched a poster competition on the theme of 'BEING SAFE WHEN CYCLING AND HAVING FUN'  - this all began because the instigator's own son participated in the first ALF Summer School Level 1 Training and like me, she acted on her instincts and approached the head teacher who equally liked the idea which resulting in the ongoing [generally speaking two groups a term at each level either side of half term] training courses, with Ys 3 & 4 doing Level 1 (Bike Control Skills) and Ys 5 & 6 doing Level 2 training (Basic on road training) with an option for those in Y6 to then go onto do Level 3 (Advanced on road techniques).

This is a school assembly/presentation we did at a school that Wendy has been working with for over a year now

During the presentation they learned about safety and helmets NOT being a substitute for training and how an ill fitting helmet is more dangerous than it is protective. Also that cycling isn't just for the young ones, that one of Wendy's clients' husbands had already ridden from John O'Groats to Lands End yet until last spring, she'd never even sat on a bike., now she has learnt so that she can go for rides with her children and grandchildren so something for all the family and indeed, Wendy has worked with a couple of families.

This was the first time that any school in Cornwall had run and awarded both Level 1 and Level 2 'Bikeability' certificates.   The photo also shows them reading the reports that Wendy gives each and every one of them for their parents, so they have a progress report on their bike control skills, which is what will help them, together with a raised awareness of hazard perception and best practise for cycling on road.
